Mary Tamm 1950-2012

It is with great sadness that we must report the death of another Doctor Who companion. Mary Tamm played the Fourth Doctor's companion Romana for six stories, which many fans consider to be amongst the best episodes of all time. Her character was intentionally different from the typical companion, with Romana being a Time Lady forced upon the Doctor by the Time Lords. The Doctor originally resented her but gradually grew to consider her a friend.

She also took on many roles on the stage and on many other TV shows including: The Likely Lads, Coronation Street, The Return of the Saint, Bergerac, Casualty, Jonathan Creek, Wire in the Blood, Brookside, Doctors, Paradise Heights and Eastenders.

Mary Tamm was a fantastic actress who helped create one of the greatest eras in Doctor Who history. She will forever be remembered.
