There's been lots of rumour and discussion about the airdate of "Asylum of the Daleks" over the last few days. BBC America have suggested that they will be airing the episode on Saturday 8th September. There's been no offcial announcement from BBC in the UK yet but there's a slot in the schedule waiting to be announced and this week's Radio Times has gone a bit Who mad with it's "Next Issue" section.

Today the BBC confirmed that Mark Gatiss will be writing a one-off drama for BBC Two about the genesis of Doctor Who. It will be 90 minutes long and will all aspects of the show from it's first broacast in 1963. It will have a close connection with the modern show too, with Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner producing it.

The first casting news for the 2012 Christmas Special has been revealed. The BBC announced at Midnight that Richard E. Grant would appear, having previously teased him as an "iconic star". We thought that is probably the wrong choice of words and you might recognise him only as that guy from that thing.
