News

- Check out these SHORT and I mean SHORT, but juicy clips from PART 2 of Series 6, from the new BBC Drama trailer!

You need Adobe Flash Player to view this content.

- The BBC has confirmed that it has cut a sex scene from an upcoming episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day.

The moment featured Captain Jack (John Barrowman) sleeping with a barman and is expected to be shown in the US on cable network Starz, The Sun reports.

However, the scene will be cut from the UK broadcast as it was allegedly deemed inappropriate for a primetime slot on BBC One.

"It wasn't that it was a gay scene that worried people, but just the fact that it was such an explicit sex scene full stop," a source said. "You can get away with scenes like that on American cable channels, but you can't on primetime BBC One.

"Even though the show airs after the watershed, it has a lot of young fans who would have been shocked at the graphic nature of the sex."

-Miranda Hart has reportedly been stopped from taking on a role in Doctor Who.

The actress has been prevented from signing up for the drama because BBC One controller Danny Cohen wants her to focus on her sitcom Miranda, The Sun claims.

Doctor Who creator Steven Moffat allegedly offered Hart a "significant role" that she was hoping to accept.

"Miranda was thrilled to be asked to be on Doctor Who," a source claimed. "Steven offered her a decent role and she felt, as it was on the BBC, there would be no problem.

"But the BBC One controller let it be known that he wants her focused on her show, which he has nabbed from BBC Two. Miranda's gutted as she feels she could do both."

This story is the first of our new regular new updates here on Gallifrey. We shall be adding more news stories than ever before and generally making the site better than ever. For all the latest news follow us on Twitter: @gallifrey6

Last night Matt Smith dropped into the immersive theatre production which is "The Crash of the Elysium". The show puts the audience at the heart of a Doctor Who adventure and are told it is up to them to save the world.

The Crash of the Elysium, created by theatre company Punchdrunk, has earned a series of five-star reviews in national newspapers. The audience members are told to wear chemical decontamination suits as they are led through a series of rooms by actors dressed as soldiers, looking for clues and being chased by the Doctor's enemies.

Smith said the show was "a marriage made in creative space heaven".

"I've always watched Punchdrunk shows and marvelled at their inventiveness and individuality," he said.

"Put that together with Doctor Who and there is a wonderful template to tell unique stories in unique ways. The Doctor would definitely approve."

The Crash of the Elysium is one of the highlights of the Manchester International Festival, which ends on Sunday.

And in other Matt Smith news, the current Doctor appeared on Alan Carr: Chatty Man on Channel 4 last night. You watch the interview and Matt "perform" the Doctor Who theme alongside pop group JLS here.

New Torchwood Stuff!

Posted by The Doctor on July 15, 2011 at 11:04 AM Comments comments (0)

The first episode of Series 4 of Torchwood has now aired all over the world. And we can all agree it was absoloutely brilliant! Now the BBC have also been producing other things for Torchwood on the quiet and we have them all here on Gallifrey for you to enjoy.

Firstly there has been a series of three Torchwood Radio Plays played on BBC Radio 4 during the run-up to Miracle Day and you can listen AND download all three on the site. They see the return of Ianto which we all know is a good thing. You can listen to and download them here.

Alongside Miracle Day an online animated series called "Web Of Lies" is being shown, with a new episode being released every week. It sees Elizabeth Dusku join John Barrowman and Eve Myles for a new adventure based on the events happening in Miracle Day. We shall be putting them on the site as soon as they come online and you can watch the first one right here!

Now surely that's more than enough Torchwood-y stuff to be getting along with!

"Let's Kill Hitler" + Torchwood: Miracle Day

Posted by The Doctor on July 6, 2011 at 11:09 AM Comments comments (0)

We now know a little more about the next episode of Doctor Who, "Let's Kill Hitler", because it's synopsis has been released:

"In the desperate search for Melody Pond, the TARDIS crash lands in 1930s Berlin, bringing the Doctor face to face with the greatest war criminal in the Universe. And Hitler. The Doctor must teach his adversaries that time travel has responsibilities - and in so doing, learns a harsh lesson in the cruellest warfare of all."

The next exciting thing in the Whoniverse is series 4 of Torchwood, Miracle Day. There are a load of exciting promo pics to see here and three clips from Episode 1 to watch in this video. Episode 1 airs in the US on 8th July, Australia and Canada on 9th July and the UK on 15th July.

No full series in 2012

Posted by The Doctor on June 19, 2011 at 1:43 PM Comments comments (0)

There will be no full series of Doctor Who in 2012 says BBC1 controller Danny Cohen.

"There will be some episodes, but there won't be a full series, so we won't have a 13-part run [in 2012]," he said. "There'll be more episodes again in 2013, for the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. So that's a big year."

Now Mr. Cohen said that it was because Moffat was too busy with his other hit-show, Sherlock. Moffat denied this saying on Twitter: "The scheduling of Dr Who has got NOTHING to with Sherlock. On the plus side THE BBC SPELLED MY NAME RIGHT!!!!"

It appears that the real reason is a typical Moffat plan, probably to do with the 50th anniversary. There is no word on how many episodes will be shown in 2012 yet though.

Series 6 Ratings

Posted by The Doctor on June 6, 2011 at 4:54 PM Comments comments (0)
I've been doing a little calculating and have added ratings of the episodes so far seen in series 6 to the number of times they were requested on BBC iPlayer, thus getting somewhere near the number of people who watched it in the UK.

The Impossible Astronaut: 10.65 million

Day of the Moon: 8.48 million

The Curse of the Black Spot: 9.06 million

The Doctor's Wife: 9.19 million

The Rebel Flesh: 8.45 million

The Almost People 7.56 million (note that the iPlayer rating for this episode was only over four days)

So there you have it. Those are staggering figures for a UK drama show and these are still not the final figures. Plus they don't include international views. And the Daily Mail said that Doctor Who was in trouble...
